Summer 2012 YA Scavenger Hunt!

Welcome to the summer YA Scavenger Hunt! I’m Victoria Strauss, and I write fantasy and historical fiction for adults and teens.

The tri-annual Scavenger Hunt was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes!

At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online until noon PST on Sunday, August 5th.

There are TWO contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter either one or both. I’m on the BLUE TEAM. There’s also a red team, for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books.

To find out more about the Hunt, see links to all the participating authors, and view the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE

Directions: Somewhere below, I’ve listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the blue team, and then add them up. Hint: the secret number is highlighted in RED.

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: The YA Scavenger Hunt is open internationally. Anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by August 5, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

That takes care of the technical stuff. And now, I’m excited to introduce the author I’m hosting on this hunt:

E.C. MYERS

E.C. Myers was assembled in the U.S. from Korean and German parts and raised in Yonkers, NY by his mother and the public library. He is a graduate of the Clarion West Writers Workshop and a member of the prolific NYC writing group Altered Fluid. In the rare moments when he isn’t writing, he blogs about Star Trek at theviewscreen.com, reads constantly, plays video games, watches films and television, sleeps as little as possible, and spends far too much time on the internet. Fair Coin is his first novel.

Too much time on the internet, not enough sleep…hmmm. I can definitely identify!

E.C. Myers’s debut novel, Fair Coin, is out now (what a FABULOUS cover):

Sixteen-year-old Ephraim Scott is horrified when he comes home from school and finds his mother unconscious at the kitchen table, clutching a bottle of pills. The reason for her suicide attempt is even more disturbing: she thought she’d identified Ephraim’s body at the hospital that day.

Among his dead double’s belongings, Ephraim finds a strange coin–a coin that grants wishes when he flips it. With a flick of his thumb, he can turn his alcoholic mother into a model parent and catch the eye of the girl he’s liked since second grade. But the coin doesn’t always change things for the better. And a bad flip can destroy other people’s lives as easily as it rebuilds his own. The coin could give Ephraim everything he’s ever wanted–if he learns to control its power before his luck runs out.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? Even better, it’s science fiction–something I’m always looking for more of in the YA market.

To find out more about E.C. Myers, visit his website: ecmyers.net. And be sure to check out the exciting sequel, Quantum Coin, which will be out this October.

You can buy your very own copy of Fair Coin (and pre-order Quantum Coin) at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or IndieBound.

And now, without further ado:
